The Celebration

South Africa's Motto: !ke e: ǀxarra ǁke (ǀXam)“Unity In Diversity” (literally “Diverse People Unite”) (Wikipedia, the free encycleopedia)

Some of you may remember a commenter this past summer who went by the name of "Molly's Dad" and posted a picture of his little cherub as his avatar. Well, he is now "Molly and Cory's dad" since his wife recently gave birth to a beautiful little boy.

Before he got busy being everyone's dad, he evidently found some time to travel to South Africa. I don't know what I did to deserve this, but he gifted me with a large wax batik of what appears to be women dancing. They look like they are celebrating, and I'm going to push that image way further than it was likely meant to be pushed. I'm going to pretend that they are celebrating their curves. That they love the soft fleshiness of being women. And that they'd like to teach us a thing or two about how to embrace our own curves.

The artwork is absolutely stunning. And even though I put the piece through the wash, just to make sure nothing horrible would happen after you purchase it and need to launder it (and nothing horrible happened at all...)... the piece still has a distinctly waxy feel to it.

Soft, soft chocolate brown body.

Bag measures 13 by 16 inches. It would work well for anyone carrying a binder, a laptop, enough stuff for two babies, some books, or just a wallet really full of money.

Celebrate.
Something to strive for in '09.
Welcome to Africa Wednesday. Bids begin at $45.00 and go up by whole dollars. This party shuts down at 8 pm, cst.

I really do love this bag, actually I love almost any African motif bag. Of course they always go over my limit - which is wonderful for Darfur - but just maybe, one day, all of you other bidders will be in bed with the flu..........MK

What a gorgeous bag. It's so nice to see it put to such great use as only you could do.

I do have a picture of the market it was made in if the winning bid wishes.

woo hoo!
good day on the blogspot. New blood. I smell new blood.... yum, yum. (what I meant to say was "Hi Jeanie! Welcome here!)

Thanks all, for all the encouraaging words today. That batik is marvelous, is it not? Thanks again, lee. And YES! a picture of the marketplace, please. I just may be using this excitement as a stimulant to rush back to the leftover batik to make some more Africa Wednesday pieces. A marketplace pic would sure round it out nicely!
