Feather

I know what I said..... Yesterday. And it's surely not that I didn't mean what I said about attempting to celebrate Black History month by going African bag for the month of February.
It's just that life throws these things around, and sometimes there isn't time for those intentions.
This gorgeous bag was three quarters completed before I made that bold assertion about Black History month, so its the one that's going on the blog today. (you'll find the tale of yesterdays curveballs over at Blunderview.)
Meantime, there's nothing wrong with this handbag. (ha ha, what a way to sell a product!)
The other day I was shopping in my own studio.
Sometimes I forget what I all have, stacked up in tidy or not so tidy piles in my cubbies.
I came across this marvelous piece of grey and brown feathers that took my breath away when Fancy Sample Guy gifted me with a lion's share of home decor samples last winter. There is a silvery script running the length of the piece behind the feather illustration. Very soothing, pretty, sort of sophisticated, I think.

Especially when paired with the one time mayor of Flin Flon's wife's skirt. (are you following?!)
That's right. Flin Flon's mayor sent me his wife's skirt. Okay, not quite.
A marvelous woman from Flin Flon went through her collection of clothing and sent me a large box of amazing vintage pieces that have been going into Darfur bags. The grey and brown pieces on the body of this bag are from Loretta's skirt.

This marvelous bag measures 11 by 11 inches.

I attempted some close-ups of some of the details in the fabric. The ends of the straps have gorgeous egg and feather symbols.

On the inside is the pocket of Loretta's skirt. I clipped it out of the skirt and attached it to the lining. It makes a great little pouch for your keys or lipstick. In addition to that pocket, is a panel pocket that runs the length of the other side of the lining; plus the two pockets imbedded in the outside side panel.
Happy Feathery friday.
I think some bids came in before I even got these words published in! So, we'll shut down this auction at 8 pm, cst.
